Portfolio & Property Strategy
We evaluate utility data, property characteristics, ownership priorities and market rules to identify where solar, storage and other distributed-energy resources can create real value.

ADVISORY FOR PROPERTY OWNERS • DEVELOPERS • INDUSTRY PARTNERS
Rice Energy Advisors helps owners turn solar, storage and distributed-energy opportunities into well-structured, executable investments.
Built through collaboration. We work alongside developers, installers, capital providers and technical specialists to move sound energy strategies into successful operating projects.
THE OWNER'S PERSPECTIVE
Property owners are approached with competing claims about savings, lease revenue, tax benefits and new energy technologies. The choices are rarely as simple as they first appear.
REA brings an owner's representative perspective to the entire process. We clarify the economics, compare alternatives, organize the right counterparties and remain engaged through execution.
Why owners need an energy strategyWHAT WE DO
Senior-level advice across the full distributed-energy lifecycle.
We evaluate utility data, property characteristics, ownership priorities and market rules to identify where solar, storage and other distributed-energy resources can create real value.
We compare ownership, PPA, lease and subscription structures—then help owners select the approach that best fits their capital, risk and operating objectives.
We organize competitive processes, evaluate developers and contractors, review commercial terms and stay engaged through development, financing and construction.
We help project owners evaluate financing alternatives, investor requirements, tax-credit transfer opportunities and transaction economics alongside their legal and tax advisers.
We advise on acquisitions, asset performance, value improvement and monetization for operating projects and distributed-energy portfolios.

HANDS-ON LEADERSHIP
StrategyCapitalDevelopmentExecutionABOUT JIM RICE
Jim Rice is an energy entrepreneur, investor and veteran leader. He co-founded Nautilus Solar Energy with Laura Stern in 2006 after the two sketched out their vision for a solar-focused independent power producer at a local Starbucks.
Jim and Laura built Nautilus from the ground up. That meant working hands-on across strategy, capital formation, project development, customer and utility relationships, contracts, construction, financing, ownership and operations. Jim remained close to the details because that is where projects are made bankable, risks are resolved and value is created.
Under their leadership, Nautilus grew from a start-up into a national distributed-generation and community solar platform. The company developed more than 800 MW of solar projects during its first 15 years, and Jim later led its community solar business from inception to more than 400 MW.
Before Nautilus, Jim held senior power, infrastructure and investment-banking roles at Riverstone, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and First Union. Earlier, he served as a U.S. Navy nuclear submarine officer—experience that shaped the engineering precision, strategic discipline and endurance he brings to every assignment.
At Rice Energy Advisors, clients work directly with Jim and receive the same practical, engaged approach: understand the asset, master the economics, anticipate the execution issues and stay involved until the work is done.

OUR TEAM

RENEWABLE ENERGY & INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
Warren Juba is an energy and infrastructure development professional whose work bridges technical execution, project finance and transaction support. At Rice Energy Advisors, he supports solar and energy-infrastructure opportunities through site screening and feasibility assessment, utility and energy-market analysis, project-finance modeling, tax-incentive evaluation, transaction diligence and project execution.
Before entering renewable energy, Warren served as a U.S. Navy nuclear engineer and submarine officer. He led teams responsible for the safe operation, maintenance and modernization of complex infrastructure in high-consequence environments. That experience gives him a hands-on, engineering-led approach to systems evaluation, equipment and vendor diligence, implementation planning, operational reliability and analytical problem-solving.
Warren earned a B.S. in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and an MBA from Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, where he also completed the Certificate in Sustainable Business.
HOW WE WORK
We define objectives, constraints and decision criteria before recommending a structure or counterparty.
We turn technical, regulatory and financial inputs into clear commercial choices.
Advice matters most when it survives diligence, negotiation and the realities of project delivery.
